Polyphonic Tides of Progress

Polyphonic Tides of Progress speaks to the condition of being caught up in the rise and fall. It speaks to the worth of both those who are empowered and those who are oppressed. Predictably and repeatedly tides crash onto shorelines and later recede off shores obliterating what was previously existing. Since the time of the Industrial Revolution, our modes of labour and production have radically transformed the way we relate as humans.  As our society shapes itself in an age of globalized capitalism, the socio-economic trajectories imagined by the Italian Futurists, which glorify youth, violence and speed, are achingly relevant today. In response to the capitalist model we are living in, I think it is of critical importance to observe the differences between competition and mutual aid as it relates to the organization of societies and ecologies.

The woven banner is activated by ultrasonic sensors. When bodies move near the weaving, parts of a soundtrack is launched, the  listener then hears many voices repeating the phrase, "I deserve it."
